"I wonder if you and I bring that same dynamic into our relationship with Jesus? When we first meet Jesus, He is everything to us! But as time wears on, we tend to drift away. When was the last time He heard from you? When was the last time you sat down to hear His voice and fellowship with Him? As the old saying goes: ”If God seems far away, guess who moved!” You may have gone on to other interests, but thankfully He hasn’t lost interest in you. He, more than anyone else, remains there waiting for you as your faithful friend!" Strength for the Journey
You're right, Holy Spirit. I talk lots, but listen little. I want to list reasons: kids this, busy schedule that, etc etc. But I know it's a matter of priorities. I do hear from You through daily bible reading and will discern Your whispers during blog entries. But how do I listen during the day when I'm living my life?.... pause to listen....
OK. Still no audible (or internally audible) voice. But I think maybe listening is just being open to hearing for Him - whether through the Bible, or in my mental processes coming across a truth, extracting a nugget of wisdom from my toddler's babble, or being awed by something I experience. I notice that when I am open to hearing from Him, I confess sins quickly, have a cheerier attitude, and feel overflowing love for those around me. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for this service You provide! Rather than needing to use angels, prophets, or dreams to reveal the Father's words and will, Holy Spirit is so much more practical and accessible. How wonderful is that accessibility? Well, not just wonderful, but ESSENTIAL!
Lord, help me listen this weekend. Both to You and to the others I love, and whoever else through whom You choose to speak.
